چکیده

JAMSIM (JAva MicroSIMulation) is an innovative synthesis of open source packages that provides an environment and set of features for the creation of dynamic discrete-time microsimulation models that are to be executed, manipulated and interrogated by non-technical, policy-oriented users. JAMSIM combines the leading open source statistical package R and one of the foremost agentbased modelling (ABM) graphical tools Ascape. JAMSIM is available as an open source tool, for public reuse and modification. Here we describe microsimulation, our functional requirements, a review of tools used by other micro-simulators and an evaluation of existing software, followed by the architecture, features and use of JAMSIM.

Social Modelling and Public Policy: What is microsimulation modelling and how is it being used?

The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of social modelling, and in particular a general introduction to and insight into the potential role and usefulness of microsimulation in analysing public policy. Despite having made a major contribution to the development of tax and cash transfer policies, there are many important areas of government policy to which microsimulation has not yet be...

Building a spatial microsimulation-based planning support system for local policy making

This paper presents a spatial microsimulation modelling and predictive policy analysis system called Micro-MaPPAS, a Planning Support System (PSS) constructed for a local strategic partnership in a large metropolitan area of the UK. The innovative feature of this system is the use of spatial microsimulation techniques for the enhancement of local policy decision making in connection with the ne...

Challenges and Opportunities of Dynamic Microsimulation Modelling

Many of the social policy challenges facing the modern welfare state are long-term in nature, particularly the threats to future fiscal sustainability caused by population ageing. In such an environment, dynamic population microsimulation models provide one of the most useful available modelling tools for projecting the likely future distributional consequences of possible policy changes. Howev...

The evaluation of health policies through dynamic microsimulation methods

This paper presents an overview of microsimulation as a method to evaluate health and health care policies and interventions. After presenting a brief survey of microsimulation models and applications we describe the main features of the approach and how these are implemented in practice. We pay particular attention to the innovative features of dynamic microsimulation as a method of ex-ante po...

Modelling the local impacts of national social policies: A Microsimulation Approach

During the last decades the inequalities in the distribution of income and wealth in the UK have grown and led to an increasing socio-economic polarisation and dualism (Atkinson, 1996; Hills, 1996; Joseph Rowntree Foundation, 1995). Although average real incomes have grown significantly, at the bottom of the scale there has been little or no rise in real income. In contrast, top incomes have ri...
